Year 2 - COMP207 - Database Development and Design

Lecturer

Dr.

Brief Description

This module will introduce students to some important tools and techniques of Data Processing. It will note differences in needs and in concept between commercial data processing and the processing of scientific or engineering data. A study of the database system, and relational DBMS in particular will emphasise the structures and principles which underpin this approach rather than the user-oriented view which is taken in Year 1. Entity relationship modelling will be studied as a methodology for the design of relational databases. The course will give students sufficient experience of methods and issues that they will be able to design and implement simple relational database and to provide access to them using modern client server approaches.
